Every sanctuary begins with a reason.

ASH began with a simple belief: animals deserve more than survival. They deserve a place to belong.

Why ASH

ASH was born from a question: what if we could create a place where animals were not simply rescued, but truly given a home for life?

A place designed around their needs. A place where they could live with dignity, safety and freedom — and where the land itself could be protected and allowed to thrive.

That idea became ASH: a long-term commitment to create a sanctuary built around care, responsibility and coexistence.

A Home for Life

For us, sanctuary means permanence.

The animals who come to ASH will not be passing through. This will be their home — a place where they can live according to their individual needs, surrounded by care, space and companionship.

Different species need different environments, but they share the same fundamental needs: safety, respect and the freedom to simply be themselves.

Husso, whose name became the "H" in ASH, enjoying a peaceful moment in the garden.

Before ASH was a place, it was three names.

Aische.  Sheila.  Husso.

Three dogs adopted from a shelter. Three lives that became part of a family. Long before the idea of creating a sanctuary existed, their initials had already formed the name it would one day carry: ASH

Years later, when the idea of creating a permanent home for animals began to take shape, the name was already there.

A shared commitment

Carlos and Frank

ASH began as an idea, but creating a sanctuary is not something one person builds alone.

What started from a personal connection with rescued animals became a shared commitment: to create a place designed for the long term, with animal welfare, responsible land stewardship and sustainability at its core.

ASH is being built step by step — combining different experiences, perspectives and skills around one common purpose: creating a permanent home where animals can live safely and the land around them can thrive.

The story is only beginning

ASH is still taking shape.

The sanctuary will be developed step by step, with decisions guided by the needs of the animals, the characteristics of the land and what can be sustained responsibly over the long term.

There is much still to build, restore and learn. We want to share that journey openly — from the first steps to the day the first animals arrive, and beyond.

This is where the story begins.
